Small Electric Grill – Big Flavor and Convenience
The Many Uses of a Small Electric Grill
Sure, you can use a small electric grill for grilling meats, vegetables and fruits for that true grilled taste. But, a small electric grill can be used for so many other things. Ever try it when making French toast? Pancakes? Bacon and Eggs for two? Then, your electric grill isn’t getting the workout it should.
Not Just For Outdoor Use
A smaller sized grill can be used indoors or out. That’s the beauty of its size. A whole meal can be prepared right on your small grill. And, not just the standards like hamburgers and hot dogs. Ka-bobs, steaks, chops, chicken and seafood are delectable when grilled on a smaller unit.
Or, how about an indoor clam bake? Clams can be grilled as well as steamed. In fact, grilling clams brings out a very different seafood flavor. Place clams on the grill with sufficient space between them. A small grill can manage up to a dozen small steamers or a half dozen of the mid-size clams. While you are preparing the drawn butter for the grilled clams, prepare roasted corn on the cob. Spray each ear of corn with butter spray, or coat in softened butter and place on the grill. Cook until tender. It may be snowing outside, but your indoor clam bake with still be as wonderful as if it was a lazy summer afternoon.
Pizza on the electric grill is spectacular and the best part is that you can buy it ready made and grill it for less than ten minutes or until the cheese is melty and hot. There’s no need to oil the grill either. If you’d like a more authentic taste, dust the grill lightly with corn meal and place the pizza atop it.
For Busy Cooks, An Electric Grill
Since it’s just plug and cook, a small electric grill is a busy cook’s best friend. There are endless varieties of foods that can be prepared quickly and with little clean up afterward with a small grill. No pots or pans to wash. Only a simple wipe down with a clean cloth. If there should be a bit of sticky remnants of steak, use a soft scouring pad to remove and rinse. That’s all there is to cleaning a small electric grill.
Desserts? From An Electric Grill?
One of the most anticipated parts of a meal is dessert. A little secret is that a grill can make delicious cookies just as well as if they baked in an oven. Place cookie dough on a lightly greased grill and watch them rise. If you wanted to finish them with a frosting, frost right from the grill and allow to cool slightly. Grilled fruits also do well on an electric grill. Give them a bath in lemon, apple or orange juice sweetened with a bit of honey. Grill for up to 3 minutes depending on the type of fruit. Serve with a dollup of ice cream or whipped cream. Want a really old fashioned apple crisp? Core and peel apples. Slice in rings. Dredge in melted butter blended with cinnamon and a drop of vanilla. Then, roll in graham cracker or crushed cookie crumbs. Grill on both sides and serve ala mode with vanilla ice cream.
Honey, Please!
If there is one ingredient that adds super delicious flavor to meats on an electric grill, it’s honey. So, please do feel free to slather your chicken, chops and steaks in this very healthful food of the gods. One way to bring out the best flavor of honey-grilled meats is to rub them in freshly ground pepper and garlic salt. It’s a fantastic way to present your grilled meal tableside. Just plug in the electric grill, place your prepared meats on the hot surface and watch it sizzle away while you tend to the salad or veggies. Or, enjoy your guests while you both watch dinner grill before your eyes.
Veggies Grilled
When you want to go vegetarian, grilling on your electric grill is so easy. Green pepper, tomatoes, onions, zucchini and corn can make a wonderful grilled salad. Brush veggies with olive oil, sprinkle with a bit of garlic or onion powder and place on a moderately heated electric grill for about 5 minutes.
Tips on Cleaning A Small Electric Grill
Most electric grills, large or small, are designed to withstand heavy-duty use. When using sticky marinades with grilled foods, allow the electric grill to cool slightly. Then, while it’s still warm, use a clean sponge to wipe down food residue. One other trick to cleaning a sticky grill surface is to use ordinary seltzer or club soda. Allow it to foam on the warm grill and then just wipe down. It’s as simple as that. The surface of an electric grill needs to “season”. So, don’t scrub it with metal cleaning pads that can create gouges or mar the surface. An electric grill should never be placed in a water to clean it, unless it is designed so that all of the electrical parts are protected from water.
